Mama Negra, Latacunga: Uno de los más famosos en Ecuador, esta celebración es el 7 de noviembre. Esta fiesta pagana celebra la revuelta de los sirvientes en contra sus maestros. La governer español viste como un mujer de color cada el 7 de noviembre por lo que los sirvientes continuan trabajando.
Fiesta del Yamor: Esta celebración es para dos semanas en el comienzo de septiembre. Incluye los desfiles y música y bailando y los fuegos artificiales y el Reina de la Fiesta. También celebran la fiesta de St. John el Bautista en el 24 de junio y el turno de St. Peter y Paul en el 29.

Mama Negra Celebrations, Latacunga: One of the most famous in Ecuador, this celebration takes place on November 7th (similar to Mardi Gras in New Orleans) Full of colors, this pagan holiday that goes back all the way to the Spanish conquest, commemorates the revolt of black servants against their white masters. An agreement was reached that they would only continue working if the Spanish governor dressed as a black woman every November 7th. Til this day the tradition has continued and even many men still dress up as black women during this day.
Founder’s Day, Quito: Known to the locals as Dias de Quito, this holiday is specifically unique to the capital of South America (the nation). On December 6th, this week-long event includes bullfights, street parades, and concerts. However, the highlight of this festival, especially for tourists, are the Chivas - open-air party buses that travel throughout Quito that come with complimentary live music and as much drink as you desire.
Fiesta del Yamor, Otavalo: This celebration goes on for two weeks, starting at the beginning of September in Otavalo, this traditional event is definitely worth being put into your Ecuadorian time schedule. This festival includes parades, music, dancing, fireworks, and the crowing of the Reina de la Fiesta. Not only does Otavalo host this huge event, but it’s also where they celebrate the feast of St.John the Baptist on the 24th of June, and the turn of St. Peter and Paul on the 29th.
Carnaval!: Carnival celebrations are taken place all throughout the world, but none are near as impressive as South Americans. Along with the traditional street parades and parties, there are all sorts of Ecuadorian food and drinks available all over this country along with native music and dance.
